Team Formation 2024-25

GSRA Draft Team Formation Plan 2024/25

 Team Formation Objective:

In accordance with Ringette Ontario Team Formation Guidelines, GSRA is moving toward a tiered Team structure for all players U12 and above where membership registration will support such a structure. The aim is to place all players on the team for which they are best suited, in a manner which is standardized, fair, transparent and provides meaningful competition using a series of evaluation sessions.

What this means for GSRA players/teams for 2024/25:

At the U12, U14, U16 and U19 levels, evaluations will take place at the start of the season (late August, early September) to determine the number and caliber of teams to be formed in each division.

Reminder that U14/16/19 A/AA team tryouts take place in the spring therefore this applies to all players at U12, and all remaining U14/16/19 B and C level players.

Evaluations will be used to determine the caliber of the players and the number of teams that can be formed at each level based on the skill caliber of the players being evaluated.

  • For example, assuming enough registrations at U12 to form 4 teams, based on the evaluators’ rankings, one U12A team, two U12B teams and two U12C teams could be formed. The decision regarding what level to rank the team(s) will be at the discretion of the evaluation committee with input from the head coaches.

The goal is for all players within our membership to be assigned to one team based on their caliber to promote skill development throughout the season and maximum participation and engagement in game play.

Teams will play locally against similarly skill matched teams.

  • If there are two balanced teams within an age division, for example two U12 teams, they will have the opportunity to play within our local house league circuit against each other.
  • Teams may also play within our local house league circuit against a different age group that is similarly skilled, for example U12A may play against U14B.
  • The goal is to ensure at least 1 other local team that can provide meaningful competition for each team. In most situations, it is expected that there will be more than one other team that fits the criteria.
  • Additional exhibition games can be arranged with surrounding associations within the NER including WRA, WFRA, SSM, TRA.

As an example, based on this past season and projections for next season this might look something like the following:

U14A vs U16/19B/C (2 WRA teams and 1-2 GSRA teams) = 4-5 team circuit

U14B vs U12A (2 U14 WRA teams and 1 GSRA U14 + 1 U12A) = 4 team circuit

U14C vs U12B = 2 U14C + 2U12B team circuit +/- 2 WRA U12B = 6 team circuit

U12C = 2 GSRA teams +/- FUN3 development = 2-3 team circuit

There is more focus on practice and development and the option to have additional exhibition games and/or attend tournaments at the appropriate age/caliber for each team.

2024/25 Registration Projections:  This will be based on caliber at the beginning of the year sort outs.
